The accumulation of laws that have been passed over our nation’s history have a striking resemblance to a crufty code base:

Dead code → Obsolete laws
Bugs in border cases → Legal loopholes
Patches and workarounds → Exhibit A: The AMT fiasco
Unanticipated side-effects → Pretty much every law ever passed
Spaghetti code → Insane cross-references which make reading some statutes almost impossible

The major difference, of course, is that most crufty code bases don’t run people’s lives.

Even as a registered Republican, I believe George Bush and Dick Cheney should be impeached. This video articulates why much better than I could. If you agree, contact your senator and representative to strongly urge them to introduce or support impeachment hearings.

If you are thinking about supporting Ron Paul in the Republican primary, make sure you will be able to do so. Have you registered as a Republican? Click here to find out if you need to in order to vote in your state’s Republican primary.

Some state parties allow registered independants to vote in a party primary. Unfortunately, those policies are often vague, hard to find, and could possibly be changed at the last minute. The only certain way to be able to vote for Paul in the primary is to be registered as a Republican.

One other note - if you are registered as an independant, but voted in another party’s primary (Democrat, Libertarian, etc) in the last election, it is possible your registration was automatically changed to that party. Just be aware that if that happened, you won’t be able to vote in the Republican primary.

The deadlines to change party affiliation are rapidly approaching for some states. In North Carolina, you can use this form to change affiliation. Do it before you forget.

If you haven’t had a chance to review the presidential candidates, I would strongly suggest you take a look at Ron Paul (campaign site, issues library). From what I’ve seen so far, he seems to be one of the most consistently principled politicians I’ve come across.
